Angelis Labor Gabriel
Angelis Labor Gabriel: "GABRIEL - Debut September 2008
A true reference turntable equipped with a base that can accept up to four arms. The materials used include aluminum, bronze and stainless steel. The turntable and arm are totally decoupled at several points - beneath the base, beneath the turntable and beneath the pin, using a magnetic field calibrated and controlled with great precision.
Type: magnetic levitation
Transmission: double Belt in special material
Thrust block: Magnetic levitation with absolutely no friction or noise. The tolerance levels of the mechanical parts are incredibly low.
Power supply: Three speeds, 33 – 45 – 78 rpm with fine regulation. The motor is controlled by two electronic cards, the first controls the speed electronically and the second card reduces the motor vibrations by means of electrical adjustment of the phase of the motor itself.
The Gabriel Arm is made in Modena, Italy in the same factory where they construct precision parts in highly technical alloys for Ferrari. The arm is a very sophisticated achievement of which we are very proud. The Gabriel turntable and arm require absolutely no antiskating and in fact have no provisions for it. The turntable system is composed of three parts - the table and base for one to four arms; the 13-inch arm; and the cartridge. The Gabriel frame consists of two cone sections created by overlapping bronze with aluminium. These sections are joined by an aluminum rod. The first cone supports the turntable bearing, the second the arm and its mount. The assembled unit is quite tall and heavy: over 30 kilos. In terms of appearance, this is one of those analog monuments which catches everyone's eye the first time they see it."

What 's Up With Touchscreen Desktops In The Making? - Gizmo Watch: "We’re moving fast to Gestural Interfaces in computers and electronic devices. While it’s only a matter of time before we start using the computers seen in sci-fi fantasies, human nature will make us speculate on the possibilities ahead. Touch and gesture based devices available in the market currently are immensely popular with the users, and with the launch of HP’s TouchSmart and TX2 computers, desktops with Gestural Interfaces appear a lot closer."

Nvidia reveals the personal supercomputer | News | TechRadar UK
Nvidia reveals the personal supercomputer News TechRadar UK: "Harnessing the power of the GPU beyond just basic graphics output has been inevitably bigged-up by Nvidia as the next big computing leap. Such confidence has it that general processing GPUs (GPGPUs) will be in everyone's PC of the future that it has released a range of high-end GPU-based plug-in cards under the name Tesla.
The numbers make for compelling reading with the latest 10-series products in Nvidia's Tesla range quoting up to 960 cores and up to 4 teraflops of performance. Before you get all over-excited though, the cores referred to are in fact shader processor threads.
Unless your chosen application runs optimally under an accelerated floating point environment, you won't see much of Nvidia's quoted '250 times the computing performance of a PC'. That said, Nvidia's CUDA programming environment (see below) is designed to tap into Tesla's specifically designed architecture and start the ball rolling for the next generation of mainstream application development."

CES 2009 To Witness 512GB SSDs From Toshiba - Gizmo Watch: "What’s the limit with storage capacity for SSDs, perhaps eternity we guess? If you thought the 256GB solid state drives for laptops were enough for the maximum we slogged over the machine, then except Toshiba’s invite to the CES 2009, where Toshiba aims at introducing the industry’s first 2.5-inch 512GB Solid State Drive. Lots of GBs indeed, but nothing superior comes cheap, so get set to empty your pockets if you wish to own one of those rigs housing this storage capacity."

They apparently broadcast sound 360° arround the room thanks to Parrot's NXT technology, which uses an extra-flat mebrane to create small-scale vibrations across the speakers' entire surface."
