Hybrid PC Components=High Speeds+Low Power+Low Cost - Gizmo Watch: "Still wondering what the headline is all about? Giovanni Vignale, a physics professor at University of Missouri aims to do just that by combining magnetic and non magnetic components. This project, funded by a $6.5 million grant from the U.S Department of Defence, involves the magnetic transfer of information. Professor Vignale is trying to make a hybrid material with magnetic memory and the superconductor logic components. The professor is planning to achieve this with the magnetic spin of the electron which forms the basis of all magnetic and electronic phenomena. For, this, the professor is using calculations from the time dependent, spin current density theory, a theory to which he has contributed massively in the past. What this essentially means for you and me is that we can expect the computer’s internal components to become more efficient, faster and cheaper. Let’s hope that professor Giovanni Vignale’s research succeeds and we get hybrid components soon. Watch this space.
