Paraplegics Can Walk Again With The ReWalk - Gizmo Watch

Paraplegics Can Walk Again With The ReWalk - Gizmo Watch: "The ReWalk literally means to walk again, and with this device, specially-abled people might be able to walk again or even take the first steps of their life. With the ReWalk, paraplegics will now be able to stand, walk and even climb stairs. The ReWalk exoskeleton is the result of a collaboration between the Israeli, Argo Medical technologies and the Massachusetts based Solidworks. Argo medical technologies have made the hardware possible for this very useful medical project and all this has been achieved by Solidworks’ CAD software which exactly simulates a human’s walk.
The ReWalk comes as a light, wearable, brace support suit which has to be worn by the user. The suit contains a backpack which acts as a control centre for the ReWalk’s actions. The ReWalk functions with an array of sensors which feed real time data to the backpack. The DC motors at the joints start moving to enable a robot-like movement of the user. The balance of the user is achieved via a sensor at the user’s chest which monitors the tilt angle and takes action accordingly. Come 2009, this veritable godsend for paraplegics will go on sale.
