First artificial nerve cell proves prosthetic brains are possible

A team of Swedish scientists from the Karolinska Institutet and Linköping University are developing the ever first artificial nerve cell that will communicate with the nerve cells in the body through neurotransmitters. Replacing electrical neural stimulation (now used) and its undesired results, with the process of neurotransmitter chemicals, administered through a new type of delivery electrode, this new system device utilizes the neurotransmitters to target specific neural pathways unlike the electronic stimulation that affects the different types of nerve cells too. With the potential to make a breakthrough in the brain and electronics interface, this juvenile technology (in the making) could be a great help for people suffering with diseases like schizophrenia, and in order to create bionic brain or prosthetic brains to help stroke victims…
