"Luxtera, AMD, Intel, Dell, Genesis Microchip, Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, Hosiden Corporation, Molex, NVIDIA, Philips, Samsung, Parade Technologies, Analogix, Quantum Data, and Tyco Electronics are major companies which support the DisplayPort, display interface of the future. It’s not another new ‘kill-them-all’ interface but instead it is backward compatible with DVI, HDMI and analog VGA when used with adapter. Its backward compatibility really is working in the favor of this new futuristic interface as we have recently seen few displays with built in DisplayPort. Dell announced their second such display in December 2007 and now they have started shipping it. Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP boasts of 24-inch screen, 6ms typical response time, contrast ration of 3000:1, 1080p resolution (1920 x 1200) and capability of producing 110% of the color gamut. This display with horizontal and vertical viewing angles of 178 degrees has DisplayPort, DVI-D with HDCP, S-video, composite, component, and HDMI connectivity options. 2408WFP weighing at 21.74 pounds is 15.62” – 19.56” tall, 22.04” wide and 8.17” deep. It can be adjusted to the height of 100mm, 45 degrees left and right, 21 degrees forward and 3 degrees backward. It comes with built in 4 port USB hub, Kensington and 9-in-2 memory card reader.
For those who want to be one step ahead and do some future proof shopping, this display is a perfectly fine buy at $699. And if 24” is too small for you then you can give $1,999 30” display a thought.
