GPS Walker For Elderly: Never To Late For A Swagger! - Gizmo Watch: "Technology is coming to the rescue of the elderly in newer ways everyday. The latest bit of news is that GPS will help old patients and guide them around. Built by a group of student researchers from Arnhem-Nijmegen University – apparently concerned with the shaky turns of the senile – the GPS walker has been tested on some patients of nursing homes. The testing ground for this endeavor has been Betuweland nursing centre in the Dutch village Bemmel. The sytem was particularly aimed at people with amnesia or orientation problems. The researchers wanted to avoid the instances of elderly getting lost even within their old care homes. The working details are unknown, but apparently some sort of WiFi is involved. The instructions are quite easy to invoke, there are just five different buttons on the device, each intended for a different use. As soon as the user presses a button on the device the walker points out the way. For example push of a coffee button tells the way to the restaurant."
