Grupo de investigação activa a primeira Entidade de Inteligência Distribuída Auto-Consciente (CADIE) do mundo

Há já vários anos que um pequeno grupo de investigadores se tem debruçado sobre questões aliciantes nas áreas das redes neuronais, linguagem natural e resolução autónoma de problemas. No passado Outono, o grupo alcançou um avanço significativo: uma nova e poderosa técnica para resolver problemas de reforço de aprendizagem, o que resultou no primeiro cluster de aprendizagem neuro-evolucionário funcional à escala mundial.

Desde essa altura que o progresso tem sido contínuo e, por isso, temos esta noite o prazer de anunciar que, há poucos momentos, a primeira Entidade de Inteligência Distribuída Auto-Consciente (CADIE) do mundo foi activada e começou a executar algumas funções iniciais. É um momento de grande ansiedade sobre o qual estamos determinados a apoiar-nos para tomar total consciência do significado do nascimento da CADIE para o Google e os nossos utilizadores. Assim, e embora a tecnologia da CADIE venha a ser implementada com toda a precaução inerente a qualquer avanço desta magnitude, os utilizadores poderão vir a notar a sua influência em várias propriedades do Google durante os próximos meses. Ainda hoje, por exemplo, a CADIE deduziu um conjunto de princípios de design Web a partir de uma análise rápida do segmento visual da Web social, a partir do qual derivou esta curiosa página inicial.

Introduction

ITM e-Knowledge is a knowledge representation management application based on Semantic Web technology (Web 3.0) and ontologies. With a complete modelling capability according to the area of activity, the solution enables all types of subjects to be described and organised into classes, and all types of relationships between subjects to be managed, ensuring rapid deployment of an operational solution that is perfectly suited to the specialist domain.

Designed for the web and for SOA (service-oriented architecture), the solution enables advanced information access and processing services to be offered to users, and also the construction of automated services using web services.

Collaborative capitalisation and sharing of the knowledge base revolves around user authentication mechanisms, collaborative updates within the work spaces, alerts according to events, etc.

Nós temos uma capacidade inata, e uma tendência quase inconsciente em utilizar essa capacidade, de encontrar padrões em grandes volumes de dados e informações. Foi assim que nossos antepassados traçaram as constelações na infinidade de estrelas que eles observavam no céu, e é assim que nós localizamos um grupo de amigos no meio de um salão lotado.

Capacidade de ordenação

Seria muito útil se conseguíssemos replicar essa capacidade nos computadores - a Era da Informação está gerando uma quantidade de dados maior do que tudo o que a humanidade gerou ao longo de milênios. Sabemos que essa montanha de dados contém informações valiosas, mas só conseguiremos tirar proveito delas se os próprios computadores forem capazes de capturá-las para nós.

Para que um computador ordene um conjunto de dados, nós devemos encontrar a ordem subjacente a esses dados e então dizer ao computador como ordená-los, por meio de um programa.

Encontrando padrões em dados brutos

Agora, pesquisadores do MIT elaboraram um algoritmo que é capaz de encontrar um padrão nos dados brutos, e então ordená-los segundo esse padrão. "Em vez de procurar por um tipo particular de estrutura, nós criamos um algoritmo mais amplo que é capaz de testar todas essas estruturas e pesá-las umas contra as outras," explica Joshua Tenenbaum, coordenador da pesquisa.

O algoritmo consegue entender vários tipos de estruturas de dados, como árvores, ordens lineares, anéis, hierarquias dominantes, clusters etc. Ele analisa os dados brutos até encontrar a estrutura que melhor os descreve e então ordena os dados seguindo essa estrutura.

Os humanos fazem isso o tempo todo, na vida diária, freqüentemente de forma inconsciente. Várias descobertas-chave na história da ciência também consistiram na localização desses padrões, como na elaboração da Tabela Periódica ou na criação do sistema de classificação das espécies utilizada pela biologia.

This bizarre creation is capable of simulating a natural brain, cell-for-cell. The Swiss scientists, who created what they have dubbed 'Blue Brain', believe it will soon offer a better understanding of human consciousness. This is no sci-fi flick; it’s an actual ‘computer brain’ that may eventually have the ability to think for itself. Exciting? Scary? It could be a little of both.
The designers say that 'Blue Brain' was willful and unpredictable from day one. When it was first fed electrical impulses, strange patterns began to appear with lightning-like flashes produced by ‘cells’ that the scientists recognized from living human and animal processes. Neurons started interacting with one another until they were firing in rhythm. 'It happened entirely on its own,' says biologist Henry Markram, the project's director. 'Spontaneously.'
The project essentially has its own factory to produce artificial brains. Their computers can clone nerve cells quickly. The system allows for the production of whole series of neurons of all different types. Because in natural brains, no two cells are exactly identical, the scientists"

Artificial Intelligence Will Leap Humans by 2020: "Artifical intelliegence will surpass human intelligence after 2020, predicts Vernor Vinge, 62, a pioneer in AI, who in a recent interview warned about the risks and opportunities that an electronic super-intelligence would offer to mankind.
Vinge is a retired San Diego State University professor of mathematics, computer scientist, and science fiction author who is well-known for his 1993 manifesto, 'The Coming Technological Singularity, in which he argues that exponential growth in technology means a point will be reached where the consequences are unknown. He is best known for his Hugo Award-winning novels A Fire Upon the Deep, in which he envisions a galaxy that is divided up into 'zones of thought', in which the further one moves from the center of the galaxy, the higher the level of technology one can achieve, and A Deepness in the Sky, a preqel.
Exactly 10 years ago, in May 1997, Deep Blue won the chess tournament against Gary Kasparov. Was that the first glimpse of a new kind of intelligence? Vinge was asked in an interview with Computerworld yesterday.
'I think there was clever programming in Deep Blue,' Vinge stated in the Computerworld interview, 'but the predictable success came mainly from the ongoing trends in computer hardware improvement. The result was a better-than-human performance in a single, limited problem area. In the future, I think that improvements in both software and hardware will bring success in other intellectual domains.'"

Well to begin with I’d get Life Insurance and then take my brain and put it in a jar and freeze my body. Then hundreds of years later wake me up and transplant me into an IronMan. Yes, I partially got that idea from the movie IronMan and from Futurama. I’m still going to do it though. But more to the point, Christof Koch and Giulio Tononi both have good points of in their articles that they wrote on consciousness and robots. Strictly speaking, I do not believe we will be able to “evolve” machines into having a conscious self because in the first place we have to give them that consciousness so, actually they are only conscious of what you tell them. So, if you tell them 2+2=5 then to them, that is the answer. But in reality it is 4, but do they know any different? The whole way to go about this is in an adverse way and giving them their own room to evolve naturally and adapt."

There may indeed be post–human entities, either organic or silicon–based, which can in some respects surpass what a human can do. I think it would be rather surprising if our mental capacities were matched to understanding all the levels of reality. The chimpanzees certainly aren't, so why should ours be either?
